Sampla Accuses Punjab Government of Exploiting Sacrilege Probe for Political Gain

CHANDIGARH: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Minister Vijay Sampla launched a scathing attack on the Punjab government this week, accusing the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of turning the investigation into the Behbal Kalan police firing incident into a tool for political theater. Speaking to the press following his mandatory appearance before a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Chandigarh, Sampla asserted that the current state leadership is deliberately diverting public attention from pressing governance issues by weaponizing a case that is deeply emotional for the people of Punjab.

'I have provided the information requested of me,' Sampla said. 'The reality is that this SIT is being used as a smoke screen. Whenever the government feels the heat regarding their failure to deliver on poll promises, they pull out the files related to the Behbal Kalan case to distract the electorate. It is a cynical strategy that insults the memory of the victims.'
