NDA Convenes to Mark 12 Years of Modi Government, NCP Postpones Anniversary

New Delhi is gearing up for a significant political event as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convenes a meeting on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, to commemorate 12 years of the Narendra Modi government at the helm.

The meeting, expected to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will bring together Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states, along with senior leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and various alliance partners. The primary agenda includes reviewing the substantial achievements of the Modi government over the past 12 years and strategizing on enhancing public outreach for the Centre's welfare and development initiatives. Discussions are anticipated to focus on effective implementation of flagship schemes at the grassroots level, ensuring beneficiaries across states are well-informed.

This milestone marks a significant moment in India's political history, with Prime Minister Modi also achieving the distinction of becoming India's longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister. He first assumed office on May 26, 2014, and by June 10, 2026, will have completed 4,399 consecutive days as Prime Minister, surpassing Jawaharlal Nehru's record of 4,398 uninterrupted days. This achievement further solidifies his enduring electoral success and leadership over more than a decade in office.

The government has been actively showcasing its 12-year journey under the theme '12 Saal Vishwas Ke, Vikas Ke, Jan-Kalyan Ke' (12 Years: Of Trust, Development and Public Welfare). Key areas of focus include economic growth, with India becoming the world's fourth-largest economy by 2025, robust infrastructure development, and various social welfare programs. Noteworthy initiatives highlighted include the PM Jan Dhan Yojana, Unified Payment Interface (UPI), Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, and significant advancements in renewable energy, space exploration (Chandrayaan-3), and national security.

In a demonstration of alliance solidarity, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a crucial constituent of the NDA, has deferred its 27th Foundation Day celebrations. Originally slated for June 10, the Mumbai event has been rescheduled to Thursday, June 11, 2026. This decision, announced by NCP state president and MP Sunil Tatkare, ensures that party leaders, including Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers, can attend the important NDA meeting in New Delhi. The NCP is a vital part of the BJP-led 'Mahayuti' (grand alliance) in Maharashtra and a key partner in the NDA at the Centre.

The NCP, founded by Sharad Pawar in 1999, has recently seen a split, with two factions now existing, one led by Sharad Pawar and the other by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar (Ajit Pawar faction). The Ajit Pawar-led faction, which is part of the NDA, will hold its postponed foundation day event at Shanmukhananda Hall in Mumbai on June 11, focusing on 'Dedication, Struggle and Resolve', a theme that pays tribute to former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who passed away in January. This postponement underscores the importance placed on coalition unity and collective representation at the national alliance meeting. The NDA, a centre-right coalition led by the BJP, has governed India on multiple occasions since its formation in 1998, emphasizing economic reforms, infrastructure development, and national security.
