Prime Minister Narendra Modi has etched his name in India's democratic history, officially becoming the nation's longest-continuously serving elected Prime Minister. This monumental achievement was reached on June 10, 2026, when he completed 4,399 consecutive days in office. This tenure surpasses the record previously held by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, whose post-1952 election elected streak stood at 4,398 days.

While Jawaharlal Nehru's overall tenure as Prime Minister, from India's independence on August 15, 1947, until his death on May 27, 1964, spanned 16 years and 286 days, Modi's distinction specifically pertains to continuous service as an elected head of government following the country's first general elections. This nuance highlights a unique aspect of democratic longevity in a nation of 1.4 billion people, underscoring the consistent electoral mandates received by PM Modi.

PM Modi first assumed office on May 26, 2014, leading the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a decisive victory in the general elections. He secured a second consecutive term in 2019 and was sworn in for an unprecedented third term on June 9, 2024, following another significant electoral triumph.
