Former Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Alla Nani Passes Away at 56

The political fraternity of Andhra Pradesh was plunged into deep mourning following the sudden and untimely demise of former Deputy Chief Minister and senior YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Alla Nani. He passed away at the age of 56 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Eluru.

According to family members and medical reports, Alla Nani experienced acute chest pain at his home. Recognizing the severity of the situation, his family members immediately rushed him to a local corporate hospital. Despite the frantic efforts of medical professionals who administered emergency treatment and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, he could not be revived. Doctors officially pronounced him dead upon arrival, attributing the cause of death to a massive cardiac arrest.

The news of his sudden demise spread like wildfire, causing shock and profound grief among his family, supporters, party workers, and political adversaries alike. Leaders from various political parties, including Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, and several other ministers and legislators, expressed deep shock and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

A Storied Political Career

Born as Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, popularly known as Alla Nani, he was a grassroots leader who carved a niche for himself in the politics of West Godavari district. He was widely regarded as a loyalist and a trusted confidant of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and later stood firmly beside his son, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, during the formative years of the YSRCP.

Alla Nani began his political journey through the Indian National Congress and quickly rose through the ranks due to his organizational skills and mass connect. He was first elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Eluru constituency in 2004. He successfully retained the seat in the 2009 general elections, cementing his status as a formidable political force in the region.

Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and the subsequent political realignment, Alla Nani aligned with the YSRCP. He played a pivotal role in strengthening the party apparatus in the Godavari districts. In the 2019 general elections, he secured a resounding victory from the Eluru assembly constituency once again.

Ministerial Tenure and Healthcare Reforms

When the YSRCP came to power in 2019 under the leadership of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Alla Nani was inducted into the state cabinet. He was entrusted with the crucial portfolio of Minister for Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education. Later, he was elevated to the position of Deputy Chief Minister, a testament to his administrative capability and loyalty to the party leadership.

During his tenure as the Health Minister, Alla Nani played a front-line role in managing the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in Andhra Pradesh. He frequently traveled across districts, inspected medical facilities, and coordinated relief measures. His tenure was also marked by the ambitious overhaul of government hospitals under the 'Nadu-Nedu' program, aimed at upgrading public health infrastructure across the state.

Although he stepped down from his ministerial post during a cabinet reshuffle in 2022 as part of the party's strategy to balance social equations and prepare fresh leadership for upcoming polls, he continued to serve as a key pillar of the YSRCP organization.

Political leaders across the spectrum remembered Alla Nani as a leader of the masses who maintained cordial relationships across party lines despite fierce political rivalries. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu issued a statement expressing profound grief over the sudden death, recalling Nani's contributions to public service.

YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the grieving family and expressed deep emotional distress over the loss of his close associate. Party workers gathered in large numbers outside his residence in Eluru to pay their final respects, chanting slogans in his honor.

Alla Nani is survived by his wife and children. His mortal remains have been kept for public viewing to allow thousands of supporters, well-wishers, and political leaders to pay their final tributes. The last rites are scheduled to be performed with full state honors in Eluru, marking the end of an impactful chapter in modern Andhra Pradesh politics.
