BJP Leader Ravneet Singh Bittu Detained Over Convoy Protest

In a dramatic escalation of political tensions in Punjab, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu was detained by Punjab Police after a high-voltage protest targeting the convoy of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The incident, which unfolded amid heavy security, saw Bittu and his supporters waving a liquor bottle, eggs, and tomatoes as the Chief Minister's vehicle passed by, triggering immediate action from law enforcement officials.

The demonstration was organized by Bittu to register his protest against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the state. According to sources, Bittu chose these specific items—a liquor bottle, eggs, and tomatoes—as symbolic representations of what he described as the state government's failures, particularly focusing on issues related to governance, law and order, and the alleged neglect of Punjab's welfare.

The confrontation occurred just days after Bittu blamed the AAP leadership for an alleged attack on his own convoy during a public outing. The BJP leader has been highly vocal in his criticism of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's administration, accusing the state government of orchestrating political violence against opposition leaders and failing to maintain basic security protocols. The protest was positioned by the BJP as a direct challenge to the Chief Minister's authority and a demand for accountability.

As the Chief Minister's convoy approached the protest site, Bittu and his followers bypassed barriers, waving the items and chanting slogans against the government. Sensing a major security breach and a potential threat to the Chief Minister's safety, security personnel and local police quickly cordoned off the area. Bittu was physically restrained and taken into preventive custody along with several other party workers who had joined the agitation.

The incident has sparked a heated war of words between the BJP and the AAP in Punjab. BJP representatives have strongly condemned Bittu's detention, calling it an attempt by the Bhagwant Mann government to suppress democratic dissent and muzzle the voice of the opposition. They argued that peaceful protest is a constitutional right and that the police were used as a political tool to shield the Chief Minister from public anger.

On the other hand, the ruling AAP has fiercely defended the police action, labeling Bittu's protest as a dangerous security lapse and a cheap theatrical stunt. AAP spokespersons stated that waving objects at a Chief Minister's convoy is not a legitimate form of protest but a serious breach of VVIP security that could have had severe consequences. They accused the BJP of trying to create artificial law-and-order issues in the state to gain political mileage.

Ravneet Singh Bittu, the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, has been a prominent and often polarizing figure in Punjab politics. Having recently shifted his allegiance from the Congress party to the BJP, Bittu has been at the forefront of the saffron party's efforts to establish a stronger foothold in the agrarian state, frequently clashing with both the Congress and the AAP on regional and national platforms.
